    What Is Trust Flow (TF)?

Trust Flow is a metric developed by Majestic that measures the quality and trustworthiness of a website based on its backlink profile. Unlike metrics that focus only on the number of links, TF looks at how close a site is to trusted "seed" sites on the web. The score runs from 0 to 100. Higher Trust Flow means the site is connected through quality, trustworthy links rather than spam or low-value links.

Majestic uses a large index of the web and identifies seed sites that are considered highly trusted (e.g. educational, government, major news). Trust is then "flowed" through the link graph. Pages that receive links from high-trust pages gain Trust Flow; pages linked from spam or low-trust sites score lower.

    How Is Trust Flow Calculated?

Majestic crawls the web and builds a link graph. They designate a set of trusted seed sites. Trust Flow is calculated by measuring how closely a URL or domain is connected to these seeds through the link structure. The algorithm considers the quality of linking domains, not just quantity. A few links from high-trust sites can give a higher TF than many links from low-trust or spammy sites.

    • Seed sites: Trusted sources (e.g. .edu, .gov, established brands) form the starting point.
    • Link distance: The fewer "hops" from a seed to your site, the more trust flows to you.
    • Quality of referrers: Links from high-TF sites pass more trust than links from low-TF sites.

Why Trust Flow Matters for SEO

Google rewards relevance and trust. A site with high Trust Flow typically has a backlink profile that looks natural and authoritative. SEOs use TF to:

    • Link prospecting: Prioritize sites with good TF for guest posts and partnerships. High TF often means the site is less likely to be penalized or spammy.
    • Quality check: A site can have high Domain Authority but low TF if it has many low-quality links. TF helps you avoid such sites when building links.
    • Competitor analysis: See how trusted your competitors are and aim to build links from similar or higher-TF sources.
    • Expired domains: When buying an expired domain, TF helps you see if it has real trust or just bulk links.

    Trust Flow vs Domain Authority

Domain Authority (DA) from Moz measures overall strength and ranking potential based on link quantity and quality. Trust Flow from Majestic focuses specifically on trust. You can have high DA but lower TF if you have many links from medium-quality sites, or high TF but lower DA if you have fewer but very trusted links. Using both gives a better picture: DA for "how strong," TF for "how trustworthy." Many SEOs set minimum TF (e.g. TF 20+) when choosing link targets to avoid spammy neighborhoods.

How to Improve Your Trust Flow

TF improves when you earn links from trusted sources:

    • Get links from .edu, .gov, or well-known industry sites where relevant.
    • Create content that attracts links from high-TF blogs and news sites.
    • Avoid buying links, link farms, or spammy directories. They can hurt TF.
    • Disavow toxic or spammy backlinks so they do not drag down your trust score.

Trust Flow updates as Majestic recrawls. Changes are gradual; focus on consistent, quality link building.

When to Use a Bulk TF Checker

Checking Trust Flow one domain at a time is slow when you have dozens of prospects. A bulk TF checker lets you paste a list of domains and get TF scores for all of them at once. Use it for:

    • Filtering a list of guest post or link targets by minimum TF.
    • Auditing all domains that link to your site to spot low-trust referrers.
    • Comparing TF of competitor domains and their backlink sources.
    • Evaluating expired domains before purchase.
    • Reporting: show clients or stakeholders which sites have strong trust scores.

What You Will Get When the Tool Is Live

Our TF Checker will allow you to enter up to 20 domains (one per line), run a bulk check, and see Trust Flow scores in one view. You can export results for reports or filtering. No need to check each domain manually on Majestic.
